Aries: A constellation of the zodiac - Aries is a mid-sized constellation that represents a ram in Western astrology and mythology. It is one of the oldest constellations and was once the location of the vernal equinox.
Babylonian and Egyptian origins - Aries was originally associated with a farmhand or a hired worker in Babylonian astronomy, but later became linked to the god Dumuzi and his ram. In Egypt, Aries was connected to the god Amun-Ra, who symbolized fertility and creativity.
Greek and Roman mythology - Aries was identified with the golden ram that saved Phrixus and Helle from being sacrificed by their stepmother Ino. Phrixus later gave the ram's fleece to King Aeetes of Colchis, which became the object of the quest of Jason and the Argonauts.
Arab and Chinese astronomy - Aries was depicted as a ram, a four-legged animal, or a hunting partner by different Arab astronomers. In China, Aries was part of several constellations that represented agricultural workers, a fat abdomen, and a marsh inspector.
