Hydra

Hydra: Hydra is the largest and longest constellation in the sky, representing a water snake in Greek mythology. It has one bright star, Alphard, and several variable stars, binary stars, and star clusters.
Ancient Origins: Hydra is based on a Babylonian serpent constellation and is associated with various myths, such as the water snake that deceived Apollo, or the monster Hydra that Hercules fought.
Galaxies and Nebulae: Hydra contains three Messier objects, including the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy, M83, which is a spiral galaxy with six supernovae. It also has several other galaxies, such as NGC 3314, a pair of galaxies that appear superimposed, and NGC 4993, the source of a neutron star merger. Additionally, it has a planetary nebula, NGC 3242, nicknamed the Ghost of Jupiter.
Meteor Showers: Hydra has two meteor showers, the Sigma Hydrids and the Alpha Hydrids, which peak in December and January respectively.
