Apus: A small constellation in the southern sky that represents a bird-of-paradise. Its name means "without feet" in Greek.
History: First depicted by Petrus Plancius in 1598, charted by Johann Bayer in 1603, and modified by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in the 1750s.
Location and size: Covers 206.3 square degrees and lies between 67.48� and 83.12� south of the celestial equator. Borders Ara, Triangulum Australe, Circinus, Musca, Chamaeleon, Octans, and Pavo.
Stars: Has 39 stars brighter than magnitude 6.5. The five brightest stars are all reddish in hue. Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta Apodis form a narrow triangle. Two star systems have planets.
